Some say "No!"

There are some dissenters in the pack and they are local. So local that they feel they don’t need a website. These guys (through TV ads) say that there are 500 jobs at risk and the cost to the economy will be something like 45 million Australian dollars if the Reef gets any more protection. The WWF obviously has more resources – witness website - and therefore aiming at a wider audience. Let’s hope the Reef wins.

For me 500 jobs seems small in comparison to the reef (but hey, I'm not one of the 500).

I expect those 500 jobs could easily be tourism-related jobs. It's not like anyone is going to make a fortune selling prawns. Dive holidays on the other hand...

I think most of it would be tourism related, but DJ you are absolutely right that 500 jobs (if that is the real figure - and I will be pursuing this little matter on the phone sometime this week) to protect the Reef does not seem a lot. I'm sure the government could be putting more money into re-training etc., but I'll find out and report back.
