To Dvorak or not to Dvorak

Help me out here folks. If you were going to teach someone to type (using software of course) would you teach them the basic QWERTY system or Dvorak? I'm leaning towards the latter, but would like to hear some good reasons against my plan. The boys start their first typing lessons tomorrow.

Why Dvorak? I mean, can you find those keyboards anywhere?

Dvorak keyboards come with ALL operating systems. It's just a drop down menu on the Macs. A slightly more complicated hoop to jump through on Windows, but somebody showed it to me yesterday. It is there.

Yes, but the layouts on the keyboards are QWERTY, so unless you carry some sort of overlay with the Dvorak keys to put on the QWERTY keyboard, it would be a bit more complicated to use it.

No, no, no Marko. When I type on a QWERTY keyboard (and unfortunately I am a fast QWERTY-man) I NEVER look at the keyboard. In fact, looking at the keyboard confuses me and slows me down. The boys will never look at the keyboard whatever they learn. I figure the more efficient Dvorak will be better for them in the long-term, but I am facing resistance ...
