The Erotic Gherkin

search.jpg

So here it is. I understand the correct unofficial moniker has 'erotic' in it! DJ's picture with The Tower in the foreground has a significance which possilby even he didn't realise when he took it. The address of the new building is 30 St. Mary Axe. The axe, of course, having played a prominent part in the history of the Tower of London.

More pictures of London taken by DJ.

The sky and clouds are much more clear in the original photo. Pity.

Must be because I've constricted the size. Still, people can go to your site to see the original.

Sorry, no I meant on the original original, a 1.3MB digital file. Some detail gets lost in jpeg conversion.

do you know - that's the first I've seen of it? It's quite lovely, actually.

I'm totally taken with it. I'll be snapping away when I go to London next.

Sacreblue! Where did that come from. Lord Cyrano and myself were only trolling down the Thames last summer (2002) and we never saw this slimmer version of Ken Livingstone's abode!

If you go to the sites I've linked to on the Sep. 20 entry, you'll find out a little (lot?) more, but I think they didn't have the main structure up when you were gamboling down the Thames with H.R.H. Cyrano.

Hi

I found this site because it is linking to mine. I just wanted to add that The architect of this building is Norman Foster he also designed the nec City Hall on the other side of the river opposite to the Tower. Londoners call the city hall "the testicle" . So there you go...an erotic gherkin and a testicle!

Hi Ludwig,

Thanks for the additional info. Is the 20 St. Mary Axe site yours?

OK, I see it now. Your site is the 'work in progress' link in the post the day before. Nice site!

This is the first I've heard of it never mind seen it! I know I've been up to my eyes in nappies and baby puke but really... Henry is there every day and has never mentioned it. I feel like I'm living on a different planet.

I doubt I would have heard about it unless I'd seen it on DJ's website. Wait until a certain FX dealer is in gainful employment again and get his crowd to engineer an invitation to the private restaurant up at the top!

It's on the cover of Brutus (Japanese magazine) this month.
