The BBC wants to put its huge back catalogue on the Internet. It's going to take time and lots of legal hurdles will need to be surmounted, but the BBC has a mandate under its charter to make all its programmes available to as many people as possible. The charter is up for renewal in 2006, so it is unlikely anything will happen until then, but surely it is only a matter of time before the biggest visual and sound library in the world is available at the push of a button.
