Superbowl

Caught two snippets of the US Superbowl and I have to say I loved it - and no I'm not talking about Janet Jackson's boobs. It's great to watch a technical game which I know just a little about, but with no partisan interest.

The first snippet was when one of the teams had inches to make on their fourth down and they went for it rather than kicking upfield. When they succeeded, I let out a "Oh good". Mrs. Bloggs asked, "who are you supporting?", to which I replied, "I have no idea and I don't even know which team has the ball, but they got so close, it would have been a shame if they hadn't made it". I can't ever imagine making such a comment watching English Premiership football.

The second snippet was, of course, like the Rugby World Cup Final - the last kick of the game. Great stuff.

The boob shot would be a lot more interesting if she looked a lot less like her brother.

I have to confess I'd never even heard of the one team playing in this game. I was chatting with tomodachi in the midst of it, though, and got a play-by-play of the last kick.

And I have to admit that I know the other team was the Panthers, but can't for the life of me remember where they are from ... and not that arsed to go and find out either. I daresay they'll be in the reckoning again in the play-offs next year so I'll just have to wait until then.

Carolina? (or so I heard from Tomodachi.) And no guarantee about next year.

BTW, http://cantbearsed.com is taken by Network Solutions (which means they're waiting for someone to make them an offer for it), but http://cantbearsed.co.uk, more appropriately, is still available.

Did you guys hear that one of the US TV networks are going to introduce a short (5-10 secs) delay in their "live" programs? There will be a guy in monitoring the program, and if something like this, or Moore's Oscar speach or - God forbid - anyone curses, this guy can edit that stuff out.

They've done that on radio shows for decades now. But not always...

trying hard not to discriminate non-european sports, but I don't think I can ever look at a superbowl game and enjoy it (the actual sport(yes there is some if you look hard!)), but then again I think for most Americans it's more like a good reason for an annual get together...

On the other hand, what do we have as comparison in Europe? Surely the FA Cup final isn't held in as high regard (anymore), so maybe the Champions League final, but that still isn't a family thing either. So does Europe need something like it?

(you know what, I might as well just stop trying to compare Europe and the US, I don't think we're quite there yet...)

For several different American perspectives on the game, may I recommend:

Steven: Try European Championships (football, of course) or the Champions' League Final.
