One precious young life was miraculously raised from its burial in the earth at virtually the same moment another was being cast away with breathtaking carelessness. 'Life is precious' and 'life is cheap' twisted together in the puzzling double helix that defines who we are as a species.

As for pieces of profound anything from the Japanese press, well frankly I won't be holding my breath. I know I've been watching the TV and not reading the papers, but the tendency in this country does seem to be to focus on facts and figures and very little comment ... er ... a bit like this blog really. I'll shut up while I'm ahead!
